What belief is important to you?

Tomorrow we will read a New York Times article about a 14 year old Pakistani school girl. She believes girls should be educated, but others disagree with her....vehemently.

What right(s) is (are) REALLY important to you?  You may want to discuss this with parents before blogging.

  1. 1)I believe that everyone should be able to believe in whatever they think is right(opinion). Also the freedom to express their religious and/or personal thoughts regarding politics, CHOCOLATE, etc.
2)The government shouldn't spend California tax money on out-of-state issues, or violate the constitution by taking away the right to bear arms and the right to express your OPINIONS in front of anybody.
3)Parents shouldn't be held responsible for their children's actions. If they don't know any better, that's another story. Otherwise, if a child is in some state of understanding, they should be held responsible.

  2. The right to freedom of religion is REALLY important to my family and I. I am a Christian and really grateful for the freedom to worship whoever I want. [ I know that many other countries don't get this right.]

  5. I LOVE Freedom of Religion because it's nice that we can worship anybody. I also think that God intended for us to be like that.

  6. I love freedom of religion. I agree with Michael because it IS nice that we can worship whoever we want to. I also strongly agree with Sam. As a Catholic living in the U.S., freedom of religion is very important to me.In most countries around the world, there is no such thing as freedom of religion. You either worship the god (or gods) that they tell you to worship or you die.

    3. Totally! It makes no sense that people could descriminate others just because they're different. Seriously, talk about a closed mindset.

  8. I believe strongly in the right of Freedom(do/say/worship whatever we wish.) I am a Christian and freedom of religion is somthing I am greatful for because I can worship who I want to.
Another right I deeply believe in is equality(men being no higher in class or having any more rights than women) I love how women can get education, own their own property, have jobs, and possess power in polotics.

  9. I believe that all people should have equal rights, but in some countries, women are not treated as fair as men. For example, in China they used to have a one child limit. Parents would kill their daughters to be able to give birth to a boy so they could carry on the family name. I don't think it's fair that the girls in Pakistan do not get an education and that people would try to kill a girl just because they didn't agree with her.

  11. I strongly believe in gay marriage and women's rights. if it were up to me I would debate on both of these and I wish we could have a debate on the topics. Both me and my family feel strong on both of these topics and if it were up to me NO ON PROP 8 but of course most Americans didn't think that and know men are not aloud to kiss other men in public women as well. It is not fair because in the Constitution it clearly states that you ARE aloud to love who ever you would like. I would also love if we could have a third party like Libertarians, I am a Libertarian.

  12. I believe that freedom to worship is a great thing that we should be greatful for, but it is hard not to offend people when you say things based on your religon

  13. Many things are important to me. 1)All people should be treated fairly. Women are just as important as men. 2)I'm glad we are allowed to choose our leaders. NO ONE should be able to just say " I'M KING". 3)WE SHOULD ALWAYS RESPECT OUR VETERANS!!!!!!!!!=] They have done SO much for us and we need to treat them well. That is all I have to say.

  14. The thing that is really important is that people have equal rights. Before, women couldn't vote for a new leader but now, women have the rights to vote.

I also agree with Hallie saying that gay people have the right to get marry. If you love someone, you should be able to marry them even if they are your same gender.

  15. I think..Yeah..people should have equal rights. It's totally obvious thaT everyone is the same, that nobody is less "special" or anything. Like for example, women. They couldn't vote, they practically couldn't do anything really. So..are women ANY different than men!? I mean..different gender, but in senses of power, it should be the same. Sure, men still mostly rule the world now..but it's never too late to change. ^.^

  16. I believe that freedom of religion is very important. You shouldn't be forced to believe or worship something that you don't believe in. You should have a choice.

  17. I belive that women's rights are VERY important. Just because adult men are stronger than women, that is NO REASON TO DISCRIMINATE!!!!! (P.S. I'm still just as awesome as anybody in this school so if you disagree come tell me and I'll go all kindsa debate on you.)
I also think that gay and lesbian people should totally be able to get married. I have tons of people that I know that are gay, including members of my family. I really do not get why people don't like them. I could go on for hours, but I'll stop here.

  18. I believe in the freedom of religion. People have the right to be a Jew, Christian, Mormon, Catholic, Muslim, and any other religion you believe in. People used to be forced to practice a certain religion; depending on where you were at the time. That still happens today in some countries. That is very sad to me. What if you are forced to be Catholic, but you want to practice Judaism? Or what if you are forced to practice Christianity, but you want to be a Mormon? Everyone is different. I am proud that I live in a place where you can be any religion you want to be. If that right was taken away from me, I would rather die. Either that or find a place that I can worship the way I want to. That is what I believe in.

  19. I believe that men and women should have the same rights. If a man and women are working the same job, men would get paid more than women, can get promoted quicker, and get better jobs. In some countries, women are not aloud to drive. (Must be very hard!) Women should be aloud to drive (in those countries) because maybe someone will not be there for them. I also know that in some countries, women aren't aloud to compete in the Olympics. In some countries, girls can't wear shorts to school or in public. (must get very hot)

  20. I BELIVE in equal rights too it's only fair

  21. I believe in freedom of religion. We are lucky because many people in other countries are not allowed to choose their religion. They have to hide their bibles and meet in secret. We are allowed to worship in public. I have a shirt that says "I am not ashamed of the gospel, because it is the power of God the salvation of everyone who believes. Romans 1:16." On the front, it says "This shirt is illegal in 53 countries. Restricted nations: 40. Hostile areas:13." I am glad the US lets me wear a shirt that shares my belifs. Maybe at recess people can have a debate on laws.

  22. i believe in freedom of religion because without freedom of religion people would have to worship someone you might not want to worship and i cant imagine life without freedom of religion.

  23. I believe in equal rights, because it makes you feel different then others, you lose opportunities like equal education, and it is just unfair.

  24. I really believe in Freedom of religion because if you didnt believe in a certain way of looking at how we were created or how you look at who to worship. Without F.O.R you could possibly be forced to believe in something that you dont believe in or something that you strongly disagree with. Another thing that I like about our rights is our democracy so that some random person can take over and shape our countries everyday life. If it weren't for our democracy The United States might have ended up like The Middle East.
