Ted Talks for Kids

Over the next week, would you find time to watch one, or all, of these Ted Talks?  Once you've watched one, take time to share. First tell us the talk you watched, and then write a reflection, connection, or important to you point.

  1. I watched a teacher talk about how I CAN. The steps to success are

AWARE: to fell and really know your purpose

ENABLE: to go out and succeed your goal

EMPOWER: to actually know the change you've made

The she talked about kids that did that. They wanted to stop child labor , so first they worked for two hours to experience it,(Aware) then they went out o the city to convince people that child labor needed to stopped,(Enable) and then they knew the change the'd made by convincing these people. She said this could actually happen in classrooms, so I think is I were like that in room 14, we would all succeed. :)

  2. 4. Marco Tempest: The magic of truth and lies (and iPods)

Wow, this was amazing. DEFINITELY watch it.

So Mr. Tempest talked about how we lie everyday, and lots of things are lies and deceptions. Take this, for example. Someone just performed and you say, 'Nice job!' Sure, maybe they did do a great job (most likely) but sometimes you're just saying that to be nice.
Maybe they tried their hardest, but it just wasn't great. That's a lie.

Then, he performed some cool magic with iPods.

Basically, I can think about times someone's lied to me. I definitely agree that art is the greatest deception. We think of deception as negative, but sometimes it's just neutral, or positive...like art.

  3. Arthur Benjamin does mathemagic!

This is amazing too! Arthur Benjamin races calculators to multiplying numbers (and wins). He can give anyone the day they were born if they provide the year, month, and date. AMAZING!

I thought that being a mathematician was easier. This is near impossible, it seems. I can barely get the answer in at least 30 seconds. He does it in ...1 second or so. Maybe 5. This makes me want to try harder at math. =)

  4. Marco Tempest was amazing, not just with the iPods (even though that was pretty good) He had a lot of interesting stuff to say about truth, lie, and art. I like when he talks about how magician are honest because they tell the audience that they are going to lie. He also kind of got the message over that not all lying is bad.

  5. Mathemagic Video

I only watched about five minutes of the video and I'm ready to comment. Anyway, he is so awesome. I never saw anyone multiply that fast at all. Like he gets the answer like less than 20 seconds. Well the four digit square one was much more exciting. I wish I could totally do that. The rest of the video was really awesome.

The magic of truth and lies (and IPods)

It's amazing how he was able to create such a great illusion or trick. It's nice how he talks about life and lies and honesty. I don't know why but I really like this video.

He raced calculators and WON in squaring four, three, and two digit numbers! I've never seen anyone multiply faster in my life. It was so cool. A definatly MUST SEE!!!

  7. I saw the one with Marco Tempest. I love the illusions that he put on. He is right about magic being honest. I love how he also said that guys lie more than girls. I think it is funny, but I see what he means.
